I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Dave Groves on the GEB America podcast to cut through the noise surrounding artificial intelligence. We didn’t talk about robot armies or dystopian futures. We talked about the much more immediate and uncomfortable truth that most leaders are missing.

The greatest threat isn’t that AI will become self-aware and take over the world. The real threat is that AI is holding up a mirror to our businesses, our ministries, and ourselves—and it’s exposing our deepest flaws. It’s revealing our broken processes, our messy data, and the urgent need for character and accountability in the digital age.

AI isn’t the problem. Our readiness for it is.

The conversation about AI has been dominated by fear of the machine. But the hard truth is, the bottleneck isn’t the technology; it’s us. Before we can leverage the incredible power of AI, we have to get our own house in order. This is the conversation we need to be having right now.

The AI Readiness Framework: Are You Facing the Real Threat?

During the interview, we explored the gap between the perceived threat of AI and the actual challenges holding organizations back. It boils down to a simple framework that every leader needs to understand. We’re spending too much time fearing the machine and not enough time looking in the mirror.

The AI Readiness Framework - Perceived vs Real Threats

Three Truths for Leading in the Age of Accountability

The rise of AI isn’t just a technological shift; it’s a leadership test. Here are three key takeaways from my conversation on the GEB Network that you can apply today:

1. The Real Threat Isn’t AI, It’s Your Readiness.

Stop worrying about a hypothetical AI uprising and start focusing on the real-world barriers to AI success. The most advanced AI agent in the world can’t help you if your business processes are a mess and your data is a disaster. The journey to AI adoption begins with people and process optimization. It’s about building a solid foundation before you try to build the skyscraper.

2. AI Is an Accountability Partner, Not Just a Tool.

The next wave of AI is agentic. These aren’t passive chatbots waiting for a prompt; they are active collaborators designed to execute tasks and achieve goals. As I discussed in the interview, we’re building AI systems that act as accountability partners. They will check in, push back, and ensure that actions align with stated goals. This is a powerful force for good, but it requires us to be clear about our objectives and ready to be held to them.

3. The Future is Agentic, and It Requires Your Character.

As leaders, we are called to be pioneers. The printing press, television, and the internet were all met with fear, but they were ultimately harnessed for immense good. AI is the modern-day printing press. It is a tool that we have in our hands. The question is, what will we do with it? This is an opportunity to lead with character and integrity, to build AI systems that promote human flourishing, and to use this incredible technology to be a force for good in the world.

Take the Next Step

Understanding these principles is the first step. Putting them into action is what will set you apart.
